Salesforce Quick Hits Series: Process Builder
Salesforce, Tips & Tricks
Written by Laura Thompson
In this installment of our Salesforce Quick Hits Series, Salesforce Architect Chad Smith discusses the Salesforce Process Builder and demonstrates two uses that can help organizations automate business processes for greater efficiency.
First discussed during Dreamforce ’14, Lightning Process Builder is now generally available as part of the Spring ’15 release. As Chad mentions in the video, Process Builder can essentially be seen as Workflow 2.0: it can do all the things Workflow does, but it can do some additional things as well, including working with Chatter.
As the Salesforce Release explains, Lightning Process Builder allows automation of daily tasks and complex processes, from follow-up emails to order renewals and new-hire onboarding.
With the Process Builder, you can:
- Create a record
- Update any related record—not just the record or its parent
- Use a quick action to create a record, update a record, or log a call
- Trigger an autolaunched flow—from immediate and also scheduled actions
- Send an email
- Post to Chatter
- Submit a record for approval
One thing you might notice about Process Builder is that Salesforce provides a user-friendly visual representation of the process as you build it. Not only does the Process Builder have a good-looking UI, but you’re able to create your processes quickly with point-and-click efficiency. Additionally, you can create the entire process in one place instead of having to use multiple rules. With these business processes automated, collaboration between departments becomes seamless as records and opportunities are automatically updated within Chatter groups you can specify.
Automatically posting to Chatter is one of the more interesting aspects of Process Builder in Salesforce. Chad, our resident Salesforce expert, walks us through the process of creating a process where Opportunities automatically–or automagically, as we’re fond of saying here at Luxent–post to Chatter when they’ve been changed or updated.
What are some other uses for Lightning Process Builder you have found?
